About

Paul Capelli is a seasoned communications professional who has worked for and consults with some of the world’s leading consumer and business-to-business companies. He has 20-plus years of corporate, agency and business news experience. Capelli’s highly acclaimed corporate communications, marketing PR and community affairs initiatives have evolved organizations to operate in an ever-increasing global, digital, and socially-driven landscape.

At QVC, Inc., Capelli established a new internal, external and community affairs function to drive the overall communications strategy and fuel global growth.   QVC experienced a dramatic shift by evolving its messaging and external profile away from “TV shopping” to “the world’s leading 24- hour, mobile, multi-screen retailer.” Positioned as an entertainment and social commerce platform, customers, media and key financial audiences alike embraced QVC as an innovative digital retailer.

Previously, Capelli led global communications at Staples, Inc. He was responsible for managing overall corporate reputation, marketing PR and community affairs across all business units for the world’s largest office products company. Through store expansion and e-commerce, Capelli supported Staples evolution from an $8 billion, No. 2 player, to a $30 billion industry leader in 26 countries. His work included the launch of the “That Was Easy” brand marketing communications initiative and the creation of the “Easy Button.” His high profile, digitally-driven, cause marketing campaigns were highly acclaimed, as they projected Staples into a competitive news landscape at key selling times, such as holiday and back-to-school.

Prior to joining Staples, Capelli led global communications at CNBC Television and was a member of the executive management committee, responsible for all CNBC operations. During Capelli’s tenure, CNBC surpassed all cable news in viewership to become the world’s most watched business news channel. He managed talent relations; launched new destination programming (including the Sr. PGA Tour); and worked throughout Asia and Europe (in collaboration with GE, NBC and Dow Jones partners) as the network expanded with new channels.

In the late 1990s, Capelli established a communications function for Amazon.com, helping the company evolve from a pure bookstore to become the world’s leading multi-product online retailer. During this time, Amazon.com become a globally-recognized brand, establishing its legendary customer-centric reputation, which was highlighted by CEO Jeff Bezos being named Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year” in 1999.

Prior to Amazon.com, Capelli was a Senior Vice President with Ketchum, where he helped build the agency’s global Brand Marketing practice while in Chicago. He then moved on to direct the agency’s Miami office; U.S. Hispanic practice; and Latin America network, overseeing 10 offices throughout Central and South America. Capelli began his career in New York working in the Public Relations and Advertising Agency business.
